Our kits consist of galvanized steel wire or stainless steel chain droppers ...are vertical chains or wires which hang down from the fence and, because they are electrified by the fence, make a barrier to livestock escape., orange or black spacers, and other components needed to make a complete, professional looking water gap installation. (You'll find a detailed component lists in the Standard Kits topic.)
Chain kit
Wire kit
Each kit is designed to span 6-feet of water gap width: you can span any water gap width by ordering multiple kits.
Divide your water gap's width by 6 feet to know how many kits to order. For an 18-foot wide water gap, for instance, you would need: 18' ÷ 6' = 3 kits.
A.Round up your order to next higher number of whole kits—a 15-foot water gap would require 3 kits, for example. This option is often more cost effective because our kits are discounted compared to buying components individually.
or...
B.Order the number of whole kits you need, plus additional components from our catalog. For a 15-foot water gap you would need two whole kits to span the first 12 feet (2 kits * 6' = 12'), plus additional spacers, droppers, etc., to span the last 3 feet (15' - 12' = 3').
Stainless steel chain prices have risen dramatically this past year. We apologize for the steep increase in the price of our chain kits, but those increases were driven entirely by the cost of chain.
Each kit includes 30 feet of stainless steel chain—enough to make droppers ...are vertical chains or wires which hang down from the fence and, because they are electrified by the fence, make a barrier to livestock escape. with an average length of just over 4 feet. (If you need more chain you can order it here.)

Why our kits don't include end lugs You might use several kits for spanning a single water gap, but you only need two end lugs (split bolts)—one at each end--or none at all if the last water gap component on each end is a spacer which rests against a fence insulator.

Buying chain locally may not save you money! The stainless steel chain in our kits usually costs less than similar chain bought locally at a hardware store, big box store, etc.
You can order chain from us, and that may save you money over buying one of our chain kits...but usually only if you need a very different amount of chain than the kit provides. (You can compare costs by adding items to the shopping cart, then deleting the ones you decide you don't want.).
What about zinc-plated steel chain? Good luck with that! We don't offer zinc-plated chain kits because we have been unable to find a supplier of zinc-plated chain which is competitively priced and light-weight enough to minimize fence sag. Most zinc-plated chain is only available in larger link thicknesses (such as 1/8"), which are relatively heavy and usually cost more per foot than the light stainless steel chain we offer (partly because we buy chain in wholesale quantities).

If you want to buy kits configured differently from our standard kits—maybe you want the spacers to be a different length, for instance—we can probably build what you want. Email us at info@mcreekag.com to describe your needs, and we will provide a price quote.
Or maybe you don't want a kit at all. If that's the case, you can assemble the components you want by ordering them individually from our catalog.
If you install a water gap kit(s) on a separate wire or cable (separate from the main fence) you may want to use a switch or flood gate controller (also called an energy limiter) to disconnect electricity from the water gap when it would otherwise be shorted out by high stream flow. A switch lets you do this manually; a flood gate controller does it for you automatically.

▪Automatically reduces electrical current going to a water gap or a section of fence shorted out by high water, weed load, etc., keeping the main fence "hot".
Flood controllers should not be used where... the water gap or section of fence they control is shorted out frequently or for long periods of time. By reducing the electrical current going to the controlled section most of the time, a flood controller can render it ineffective for controlling livestock. In these situations a switch may be a better solution, letting you keep the water gap "hot" most of the time though with some overall voltage loss.
